Millstream-Chichester National Park
150 km south of Roebourne on the Wittenoom Rd is the 200,000-ha Millstream-Chichester National Park which occupies land around the tree-lined Fortescue River and Millstream Creek within the Chichester Range. The land around Millstream's water pool supports typical vegetation of the tropical north with introduced species such as date palms and cotton palms found along Millstream Creek.
From June to August the winter rains encourage the growth of colourful wildflowers. Black flying foxes, a range of birds and plenty of dragonflies and damselflies are also found around Millstream.
Fishing, camping and picnicking can all be enjoyed. Millstream has toilets, gas barbecues, picnic tables, a telephone, disabled access and unboiled water.
The months from May to August are the most temperate times to visit the park. Entrance and camping fees apply. For more information ring (08) 9184 5144 or fax: (08) 9184 5146.
Harding Dam
Located 27 km from Roebourne is the newly (2004) completed Harding Dam (it incorporates a state of the art micro filtration treatment plant - but the water still tastes very metallic)
